Frankenmuth Farmers Market Earth Day Extravaganza 2008

FRANKENMUTH, MI – Everyone is invited to celebrate the Frankenmuth Farmers Market’s 2nd annual Earth Day Extravaganza 11am-4pm Saturday, April 26 at the Chamber of Commerce Chamber Platz, 635 S. Main Street, downtown Frankenmuth.  Held in honor of Earth Day, the Frankenmuth Farmers Market is hosting a free, open-air market to commemorate the contributions of our Market growers, producers, and our most important provider, the Earth.

For Earth Day’s 38th anniversary, the celebration’s activities, handouts, demonstrations, and organizations will focus on preserving and nurturing our world for future generations while enjoying the agricultural abundance afforded to us by our planet through the work of the farmers that feed us.  Guests will also be able to express themselves on a community art mural.  The line of participants includes:  Lawrence Farms with organic hoop house delicacies of spring’s first harvest of lettuces and other greens, Lawrence Farms CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) program information and membership forms (for weekly produce delivery), 500 free white pine seedling give-aways to improve our carbon foot print courtesy of the Market and the Saginaw Conservation District, Great Lakes Emu Products, Better Finds Native Michigan wild flowers and plants, Kapow Soap, Kachomp Dog Treats, Go Nuts! and Jem fruit spreads, Victoria Farms Honey, fair-trade coffees and beans from Harvest Coffeehouse and dawn of a new day café, Frankenmuth Area Fine Arts Council recycled art, Jenny Lund’s recycled jewelry, Chrysler and General Motors alternative energy vehicles, musician Keith Boesnecker, chair massages, literature from Michigan based energy alternatives and watch groups, Michigan State University Extension 4-H with demonstrations for savvy local ecologists, Child Abuse and Neglect Council of Saginaw, Michigan Farmers Market Association, local political figures, and the Thanking Our Earth Mural with an invitation for all to contribute to this project and send to our state capitol.  In addition, Wally Bronner tribute ribbons will be available for sale, with all proceeds benefiting the City Beautification Committee, one of Wally's favorite causes.

The mission of this day is the mission of the Frankenmuth Farmers Market:  Be Entertained ~ Be Enriched ~ Be Educated.  The Frankenmuth Farmers Market.  It’s the Place to Be!  Join The Delicious Revolution and celebrate your food chain From Field to Fork. The Frankenmuth Farmers Market runs 8am-2pm Saturdays, May 17 – October 18, with a Christmas Market Thanksgiving Weekend, November 28-30.  The Market features produce, organic breads and grains, hand-made soaps, baked goods, bedding and potted plants, flowers, other spring goods, and more, located off Main St. near Cass St., across from the Chamber Platz, with parking available behind the Market.  Free live music, informational events, children’s activities, and local artists every Saturday make for a very interactive Market as producers and consumers exchange fresh, local products while educating each other, inspiring community, and keeping our rural heritage alive.
